Buying the Ideal Diamond

The ideal cut is a mathematical formula for cutting diamonds to precise angles and proportions to gain the optimum reflection and refraction of light. It is very common to compromise one or more of the 4 c's when selecting a diamond, and this is perfectly acceptable when cost is a factor. You may choose to compromise on color, clarity, or carat weight, but to ensure that you have the most brilliant possible diamond, you should never compromise on cut. We at Norma Originals understand that proportioning is not always the factor used to select a diamond, so if you find yourself without a starting ground please feel free to call for a free consultation.

We suggest that you first go to two or three well-known jewelry stores and look with their microscope at different grades of diamonds. We suggest that you only look at diamonds which have a certificate from an Independent Laboratory. I stress Independent Laboratory because many jewelers employ their own gemologists and as a result it is possible for a biased grading and valuation. Independent Labs are not in the business of buying or selling jewelry. So you see, this removes the bias and this way you will know what you're looking at. Once you have done this, come back to my website and view the available diamonds at Norma Originals. Our diamonds all come with an Independent Lab grading report. We use the Rapaport Diamond Report to determine the New York asking price for diamonds.

If you don't see what you are looking for here, drop us an email or call our professionally trained sales staff for a no cost consultation. Norma Originals has many diamonds to choose from, some of which are not listed on this website. We can e-mail you a list of additional diamonds available, all with Independent Lab Reports from the well-known labs of GIA, EGL, EGLNY, EGLLA, IGI, AGS, or PGS.

Diamond Proportioning & the Effects of Brilliance
When a diamond is ideally cut, light rays from all sides are bent towards the center of the stone and are reflected back through the top in a blaze of light.
In a diamond that is cut too deep, much of the light is reflected to opposite facets at the wrong angle and is lost through the side. The diamond may appear black in the center.
In a diamond cut too shallow, light "leaks" through the bottom and the eye may see a dull reflection in the diamond.
